Fired 7 Days After A Glowing Review. Is This Retaliation After Reporting A Toxic Manager?
Location: Colorado
I worked as a paralegal at a small law firm. About two weeks ago, I reported concerns about a supervisor’s behavior to one of the owners because there is no HR department. The owner said they would look into it.
Shortly after that, management changed. The person I had reported was promoted, and the owner I spoke with was no longer with the company, effective immediately.
One week later, I received a very positive performance review. I recorded this review because of ongoing concerns about inconsistent feedback. No issues about my work were raised during the review.
Seven business days after the review, I was terminated. The stated reason was “performance issues,” including documents I allegedly filed incorrectly. These alleged issues were never previously mentioned, and all documents I filed were reviewed and approved by supervisors before submission.
I believe the timing suggests possible retaliation for reporting my concerns.
My questions: 1. What type of attorney should I contact for this (employment, labor, wrongful termination, etc.)? 2. What documents and evidence should I preserve right now? I am not asking for advice about any other employees — only my own situation.
