Roommate Told Me He Was Going To Kill My Cat In Detail

My (25f) roommate (23m) threatened to kill my cat in detail last Tuesday. We are/used to be best friends and coworkers(we still are).

Tuesday night we were having a good time watching memes in my room when we decided to head to our separate rooms to go to bed. We keep his dog (medium sized) and my 2 cats separated, with his dog out during the day and the cats out at night. He has never had cats before and has gotten angry previously when my cat would swat at his dog, threatening to ‘smack’ him if he did it again on two separate occasions, keep in mind neither animal was injured either time. I understand he doesn’t want his dog getting scratched or injured and am considerate of that, but his reaction to swatting is overwhelming imo. -about 30 seconds after he leaves my room and enters his I hear some paws sliding assuming he’s sliding his dog back into his room, well about 15 seconds later he storms in my room, cussing me out, throwing one of the cats string on a pole toys, hits my bed that I’m sitting in as hard as he could. I’m confused as all hell because he won’t answer when I ask what’s wrong or what happened, I just continue to be cussed out. He finally lets out his dog is bleeding and I’m only left to assume he wasn’t watching his door when he entered and the cat came in and scratched him. He goes on to tell me if he ever sees my cats out in the living room or touches his dog again he will kill my cat. He went into detail about ringing his neck and poisoning him. -At first I tried to stay silent until he said he was going to kill my cat, i didn’t want to further escalate the situation but what fucking psychopath threatens to kill an animal over a minor scratch, not needing any vet visit, or more than just a good wash. At this point I started getting load as I was incredibly scared for my and my cats safety, told him to gtfo of my room, which caused more yelling from him but I didn’t know what else to do.

Since this event I have ordered and received a new fingerprint/code bedroom door knob, pepper spray, a blinding flashlight/stun gun, one of those travel locks people use at hotels, and metal bar door jammer.

I have had multiple people including an attorney tell me I should file a police report, but I fear that will cause retaliation. If I were to make a report, I feel I would need to have already secretly moved out while he’s at work someday and put a transfer request in at work which I don’t know how long would take or if would even be approved. Then I’m looking at needing 2 rents or minimum 3k plus 2 months rent to break my lease.

I don’t know if he would actually go through with killing my cat if another incident happened, but there is no doubt in my mind he would at minimum hit or grab him

He’s been friendly at work but we haven’t spoken at all at home since Tuesday. What do I do? Do I live uncomfortably and save up money to move out early with a double rent? Would a police report/restraining order(idk if I’d qualify considering I didn’t get any of this on camera (I’ve since installed on)) waive early lease termination fees.

Is the fee for early termination per tenant or household?if I pay the fee are we both able to move out or is it per person? If the fee is for the entire lease and we can both move out that may be a feasible option
