Small Claims Court With Someone Who Is Out-of-state
Location: Jefferson Country, Colorado
I lived in Colorado for a year and have moved back to my home state, New Jersey, which is on the other side of the country. I have not received back my security deposit, and now that 30+ days has passed, I am now entitled to 3x as much. The landlord is breaking both the rules stated in the lease as well as Colorado State Law. However, the problem is, how would I go about this? Would I have to physically fly back to Colorado, or can I get a lawyer to represent me on my behalf?
It would be an incredibly easy case and I don't think finding a lawyer would be difficult, but I am new to this and would appreciate some guidance as well. It has been very stressful on my end as the landlord is also difficult to get ahold of, and has a history of not replying to texts for weeks. I have also written a letter of demand, which was both emailed and psychically mailed, about two weeks ago and it has gone ignored. Many thanks in advance.
