Dog Sitter Abandoned Property Hold - Il
Location: Chicago, IL
I had a Rover sitter booked from 7/24-7/26. Plans changed and we ended up coming home 7/25. The sitter said she likely wouldn’t be able to grab her stuff before we got home. She said she would come by in the morning on 7/26. She never got her stuff, but she brought back our key and left it in the mailbox.
I’ve tried to contact her both through Rover and text on her actual phone number to arrange pick up. I haven’t heard anything back from her. It’s not just a change of clothes. Her iPad and Apple Watch are here. The bag is a Bèis bag.
I contacted Rover a few weeks back and explained the situation. I told them that I would only hold the belongings for another 24 hours before taking it to the police. I’m going through health issues so I didn’t actually go until yesterday. The officer said they don’t take things in these situations, which I kind of expected.
Now I’m unsure what to do. I can’t send her any official notice because I don’t have her address. How much longer am I legally expected to hold on to her stuff before discarding or keeping it for myself?
