Moonlighting

Location: New Hampshire

Healthcare provider who started at a large hospital this year. When i signed my contract there was nothing included regarding moonlighting, non-compete, or anything stating i cannot work a private practice outside of there. My contract just states that i represent i will not be restricted in any way, from performing my job duties, by other employment arrangements. Within the companies larger policy handbook there are also no explicit moonlighting or non-compete clauses. The only thing that comes close is their overall conflict of interest policy for all employees.

In bringing up my plans to conduct outside work, i was told i cannot have a private practice. I explained this was not discussed to me prior and is not explicitly outlines in company policy, and they went on a rant about how it could theoretically interfere and this and that.

Do they have the right to simply just tell me not to have a private practice without there being any moonlighting or non compete policies and only having a broad conflict of interest policy that doesn’t explicitly prohibit outside work?
