Reimbursement For Stolen Packages In Apartment Complex

Card image cap

Location: Connecticut, USA

I live in an apartment complex where the mail situation is a bit of a mess. We do have a mail room but not all delivery personnel have access to it, so a lot of packages get dropped in front of it or in other parts of the building, like the entrance way to the leasing office.

I recently was unable to find some packages that were supposedly delivered to me and aftera couple of days contacted the leasing office about them. Packages did still not appear a few days later so I filed a theft report with the local police department, notified my leasing apartment about it and asked if they had surveillance tapes. It appears that some packages got stolen (mine probably included) when a resident held open the door for a non-tenant and allowed them access into the building. My question is, is the apartment management responsible for reimbursing me for the loss? And if so, how I would I go about claiming it?

Since the packages were stolen from a semi-public area in the complex and not by apartment I feel like it is not my fault and do not think my renter's insurance would cover it (deductible may also be higher than the ~$500 in goods that got stolen). I also checked my credit card but it appears the one I used to buy the products in the packages does not have purchase protection.
