Florida Super Speeder’s Infiniti Was No Match For Cop’s Unmarked 5.0

  • Troopers say an Infiniti G37x hit 148 mph early Wednesday.
  • Driver was arrested under Florida’s Super Speeder statute.
  • FHP says aggressive speeding enforcement is ongoing statewide.

Speeding through Florida may still feel tempting given the state’s long, wide roads and flat terrain, but since the Super Speeder law took effect on July 1, 2025, it’s quickly become a one-way ticket to jail. State troopers aren’t just writing tickets anymore, they’re arresting drivers if they’re caught going triple-digit speeds.

In case we needed any more proof of that, one 28-year-old gave it to us on Wednesday morning. Police say they clocked him at 148 mph (238 km/h). You’ll love how they caught him, too.

According to FHP, a trooper was parked along westbound I-4 in Lakeland around 2:55 a.m. when an Infiniti G37x sedan caught his attention due to aggressive driving behavior. After activating state-issued radar, the trooper recorded the car traveling at 101 mph (162 km/h) in a posted 70 mph (44 km/h) zone.

According to WFLA, the driver was 28-year-old Alfred Escobar-Hernandez. Authorities say that he and his Infiniti continued accelerating, exceeding 120 mph (75 km/h) while the trooper maintained visual contact.

As the trooper and suspect entered into Hillsborough County, the Infiniti driver allegedly changed lanes and then reached 148 mph. That would be quick enough to toast some troopers.

In this situation, the police car behind him was a Ford Mustang GT. Thanks to that power on hand, the trooper ultimately initiated a traffic stop and arrested Escobar Hernandez under Florida’s Super Speeder statute, which applies to drivers exceeding the speed limit by 50 mph or more, or traveling at 100 mph and above.

The law allows for enhanced penalties, including mandatory court appearances and potential license suspension, depending on the circumstances.

FHP used the opportunity to show off their unmarked Mustang GT, the arrest, and the Super Speeder law on social media. It’s far from the first time that troopers have nabbed high-speed drivers since the law went into effect. In fact, they caught and arrested someone minutes after it became law last year.

At this point, speeding in Florida is perhaps one of the dumbest ways to go to jail in the southeast corner of the U.S.A.
