Ford’s Missteps Continue To Bite As August Sales Fall Over 10%, With Evs Down Nearly 80%
- Combined Ford sales fell 10.3% last month and they’re down 9.8% year-to-date.
- A number of models posted declines including the Bronco, F-Series, and Mach-E.
- All three surviving Lincolns were up, but Corsair’s temporary hiatus is still being felt.
Another month, another disappointment for Ford as combined sales plummeted 10.3% in August to 170,681 units. That’s a decline of nearly 20,000 vehicles and this can largely be chalked up to the elimination of the Escape.
Electric vehicle sales plunged 79.4% and this was partly due to the axing of the F-150 Lightning. Dealers only sold 148 of them last month, which was down 95.4% from a year ago.

The aging Mustang Mach-E didn’t do much better as sales tumbled 72.5% to a disappointing 1,989. However, it’s important to note last year’s sales were elevated as there was a mad dash to buy vehicles before the clean vehicle tax credit expired on September 30.
Putting EVs aside, overall Ford sales fell 10.3% to 163,175. The top seller was unsurprisingly the F-Series, which found 67,504 takers. That was a slight 1.2% decline from a year ago and this only equates to 814 units.
In a distant second place was the Explorer, which was down 4% to 19,801. It was followed by the affordable Maverick as 13,680 Americans scooped one up last month.
While the sales chart wasn’t terribly interesting in August, the Mustang was up 12.7% to 3,647 units. Furthermore, the Bronco Sport climbed 8.3% while the Bronco fell 8.8%.
It’s also worth noting the recently redesigned Expedition is having a tough go as August sales were down 11% and it’s off 11.6% year-to-date. Part of this can likely be blamed on high gas prices, which makes it a shame we never got the hybrid variant that was originally promised in the 2023 UAW contract.

Mixed Result At Lincoln
Things were also bad at Lincoln as sales dropped 10.4% to 7,506 units. This can be blamed on the discontinuation of the Corsair as sales fell from 2,526 to just 266.
However, Lincoln recently introduced the 2027 Corsair, which comes with a facelift and a Chinese passport. While it looks great and features a new hybrid powertrain, pricing has shot up $7,310 to begin at $46,495 before a $2,295 destination fee.
Speaking of China, the Nautilus had a good month as sales were up 28.9% to 3,627 units. The American-made Aviator also took to the air as sales climbed 22.4%, but dealers only sold 1,732 vehicles.
Unlike the Expedition, the Navigator ended up in the black as dealers moved 1,881 of them for a 15.8% increase.
