Forget The Banana In The Tailpipe, This Beverly Hills Cop Flipped A Whole Truck

  • Suspect stole a box truck in LA just days before Christmas.
  • Chase ended in Beverly Hills with a dramatic police PIT.
  • Truck spun 180 degrees but didn’t flip despite heavy impact.

Just days before Christmas, a suspect in Beverly Hills allegedly stole a large box truck, sparked a police chase, and wound up on the receiving end of a PIT maneuver unlike any we’ve seen before.

Fleeing from police is rarely a bright idea, but doing it in a slow-moving, top-heavy delivery truck? That’s on a different level of doomed. Even Axel Foley might’ve laughed, winced, and then called it a bit much.

The incident occurred on December 19, after the suspect stole a box truck in Santa Monica and drove through West Los Angeles and into Beverly Hills. The local Beverly Hills Police Department just released footage showing the end of the chase and the truck driver’s half-hearted attempt to run away from the law.

Red Light, Wrong Turn

The video, pulled from three conveniently positioned security cameras at an intersection, shows the truck driver making a left turn through a red light and even having the presence of mind to switch on the turn signals. A black-and-white Chevrolet police cruiser can then be seen driving into the rear quarter of the truck as it makes the left turn.

Somewhat surprisingly, the truck didn’t flip over while it was being pushed by the cops and came to a rest after pirouetting 180 degrees. The clip then shows the truck driver bolting out it and running across the road with at least five police officers in tow. Seconds later, the driver appears to realize they can’t get away, momentarily stopping before being tackled to the ground by police.

So far, authorities have not released details about any charges that may have been filed.

From the look of things, the truck was in active use for deliveries or pickups when it was reportedly stolen. The rear cargo door remained wide open throughout the chase, revealing what appeared to be a refrigerator along with other household items still inside.
