Pick Of The Day: 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-door Hardtop

When it comes to Tri-Five Chevrolets, it seems the two-door hardtops and convertibles get all the love, so when we come across a well-kept Chevy of another body style, it’s worthy of a closer look. The Pick of the Day is a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-door hardtop listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Frisco, Texas.

“I purchased a collection of six cars from a widow in Ponca City, Oklahoma,” the listing begins. “I know it sounds like a story, but it’s true! Her husband passed in 2018 and the collection has been sitting in their warehouse ever since. At 88, she finally came to admit that it was time to send the cars to someone who would care for them and bring them back to life.”

The seller says that the car was restored earlier in life in its original color combination “to an incredibly high standard.” The two-tone blue and white exterior features chrome brightwork, hood ornament, antenna, and color-keyed steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and whitewall tires.

The bench seats are upholstered in blue and gray vinyl and cloth, and features include vintage-style radio, clock, heater, aftermarket floor-mounted center console, and of course, a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror.

Under the hood is a 265ci Turbo-Fire V-8 mated to a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission. The odometer shows 82,309 miles, which the seller believes reflects the actual mileage. “Car runs, drives, and brakes well,” the listing says. Maintenance-wise, the seller states, “Since purchasing, we have changed all fluids, rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the fuel tank, pump, and sending unit. We also replaced the master cylinder, brakes, battery, and whitewall tires.”

A four-door Bel Air is a family-friendly alternative to the popular two-doors, and it’s a special occasion when you find one that’s been collector-owned long-term and put through a detail-oriented restoration.
