Pick Of The Day: 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop Restomod
Which song title comes to mind when you look at a Ford Mustang? “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas & The Papas? “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen? A certain Rolling Stones song perfectly fits the look of our Pick of the Day: “Paint It, Black.” You can find this 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop restomod listed on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Big Bear Lake, California.
Color can completely change the presence and attitude of a vehicle. A white Mustang Convertible seems light and care-free, perfect for top-down cruises on pleasant spring days. A Mustang Fastback in red looks ready for fast launches from stop lights and thundering down back roads. This all-black — or as the kids these days would say, “murdered-out” — Mustang Hardtop has a palpable menace to it. Everything on it is monochromatic: the darkened headlights and taillights, bumpers, hood lettering, trim, functional hood scoop, door handles, and so forth.
All that black means this Mustang will be hard to see at night. During the day, you’re likely to see just its rear end growing rapidly smaller ahead of you. The seller says, “Under the hood sits a brutal 363 stroker producing 587 horsepower, paired to a brand new Tremec TKX 5-speed that shifts with precision and confidence. EFI, ceramic headers, upgraded cooling and a K&N cold air intake make this car as street-friendly as it is ferocious. Turn the key and it fires instantly, idles clean and pulls hard through every gear.” A Ford nine-inch rear end with an Eaton Detroit Locker channels that power to the road; a Ridetech four-link coilover suspension setup and Wilwood power disc brakes keep it in check.
Just like the exterior, the cockpit is all black, from the door panels and carpeting to the Corbeau leather seats with shoulder belts and the custom-built four-point roll cage. Despite its mean, hardcore appearance, this Mustang has several comfort and convenience features, including power steering, power locks and windows, Vintage Air heat and air conditioning, and even a power trunk release. Other updates are the Dakota Digital gauges, backup camera, and nine-inch Alpine infotainment system touchscreen. There are two music options: the fury of the 363 or whatever you choose to play through the sound system’s 6×9 speakers, dual 10-inch subwoofers, and amplifier.
Another Rolling Stones song says that “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” but if you’re in the market for a blacked-out 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop restomod with big power, you can buy it for $89,000 (or best offer).
