Pick Of The Day: 2019 Morgan 3 Wheeler
Last year while I was attending the Brits in the Ozarks show in Bentonville, Arkansas, I somehow got a chance to drive one of the most fun vehicles I have ever been in. This was thanks to my friend Craig Ligon, who kindly lent me his personal Morgan 3 Wheeler, which was the most amazing mix of everything I love about motorcycles and classic sports cars all rolled into one. Our Pick of the Day is one of these retro-modern masterpieces, a 2019 Morgan 3 Wheeler listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in Biloxi, Mississippi.
One of the most surprising things about the 3 Wheeler is that even at six-foot-four, I still comfortably fit in it due to the ingenious adjustable pedal assembly. In addition, my size-13 feet were not too big to operate the pedals. After taking about an hour-long spin in the car I knew that I needed to get one at some point.
It’s not just the fun of driving the 3 Wheeler — it’s also the old-world quality visible everywhere in the little Morgan. The seats are covered in the finest leather, the body is hand-fabricated from aluminum and covered in great paintwork, the steering wheel is period-perfect, and everything you touch feels like it was carefully assembled by hand (which it was). These are effectively bespoke cars and feel quite special.
The seller describes this example as painted in Sports Black with a matching grille surround, rear body louvers, chrome bonnet latches, chrome roll hoops and mirrors, a full windscreen, 110th Anniversary badging, J.W. Speaker headlights, and amber LED visibility markers. The car rides on factory 19-inch wire-spoke front wheels fitted with Avon tires and secured by Morgan two-ear knock-off spinners, while a 15-inch wheel with a Bridgestone tire is positioned beneath the rear bodywork. Braking is performed by two front discs and a rear drum.
The interior is also nicely optioned. It comes furnished with quilted Yarwood green leather heated seats with matching armrests. It also has a very cool factory accessory Brooklands steering wheel with a quick-release hub ahead of turned-aluminum dash panels housing a VDO 130-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm tachometer, and cool aircraft-style toggle switches. Additional equipment includes three-point seatbelts, storage pockets, leather-trimmed floor mats, and an under-dash power outlet.
When starting up a modern 3 Wheeler you can easily feel like you are a World War I pilot about to go on dawn patrol with your Sopwith Camel squadron. The way the switch works in conjunction with the sound and feel of the engine makes the 3 Wheeler the best full-sensory time machine I know of. Combine that with how easy the 3 Wheeler is to drive and you have what may be the most perfect vintage-modern car ever built.
This 2019 Morgan 3 Wheeler includes its factory tonneau cover, owner’s manual, build book, and keys. The build book is pretty amazing as it is a bound book provided by Morgan that details every single step in the construction of the car.
Of course, no one actually needs a Morgan 3 Wheeler, but it is so fun that it makes you come up with reasons why you do. This is what the very best classic cars do and one of the reasons why we love them.
Morgan built the 3 Wheeler from 2011-21, and the cars got better and better during that time. Experts on these cars consider all of them good, but they note that those from the final few years of production are the best of the bunch.
This 2019 Morgan 3 Wheeler represents the absolute sweet spot for these cars; the asking price of $49,900 is right in line with what you should spend for a great example. If you have a classic roadster and motorcycle at home, this unique car can replace both. Think of the garage space you will save.
