Pick Of The Day: 2020 Dodge Challenger R/t Scat Pack 50th Anniversary

Nearly seven years after Larry Edsall first introduced The ClassicCars.com Journal to the newly unveiled 50^th Anniversary version of the Dodge Challenger, we have the privilege of feasting our eyes on one. And it’s basically brand-new, showing only 700 miles on the clock. The Pick of the Day is a 2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 50^th Anniversary Edition listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Amsterdam, New York.

“A truly exceptional collector-grade modern muscle car is now available,” the listing says. The seller continues: “This Challenger has been preserved from day one with exceptional care. Always stored in a climate-controlled, heated garage inside a protective car capsule, it has never been exposed to rain, snow, or harsh conditions. The results is a vehicle that presents in like-new, collector-quality condition inside and out.”

In its most recent generation, the Challenger had a lengthy production run from 2008-23. Consistent with the automotive design trends of the time when it was launched, the car had retro-inspired lines. It became a massive success: The inaugural SRT8 model sold out completely before it even hit showroom floors.

Dodge found ways to spice up the car on a regular basis in order to keep it relevant and competitive. Toward the end of its production run, a 50^th Anniversary version was built in 70-unit runs in exclusive colors. That 70, of course, was a nod the Challenger’s first model year of 1970.

Exterior features include shaker hood, LED headlights, fog lamps, splitter, power moonroof, satin black roof and decklid, 50^th Anniversary badging, and 20-inch wheels wrapped in summer tires.

The cockpit is upholstered in black Nappa leather and Alcantara with 50^th Anniversary logos; the front seats feature ventilation. Features include a numbered “1 of 70” dash placard, Harman Kardon 18-speaker audio system (with trunk-mounted subwoofer), adaptive cruise control, suede headliner, aluminum pedals, and embroidered floor mats.

Underneath that shaker hood lives a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 (487 horsepower/475 lb-ft of torque) mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The car came equipped with performance features including SRT configurable drive modes, Electronic Stability Control, and Line Lock. In addition to its potent powertrain, the Scat Pack also has strong six-piston Brembo brakes up front with two-piece rotors.

As far as modern muscle cars go, a 1-of-70 Gold Rush R/T Scat Pack 50^th Anniversary is a highly collectible, limited-production machine. The seller says the car is “an extremely rare opportunity for any serious Mopar enthusiast or collector.” The asking price is $60,000.
