The Id.buzz Is Now More Expensive, Right Before It Goes Away
- VW offered up to $10,000 off the ID.Buzz late last year.
- $2,500 Dealer Bonus has been dropped for 2025 models.
- No 2026 model year ID.Buzz will be offered by the brand.
With the federal EV tax credit no longer available in the US, automakers have had to get creative to keep EV sales alive. Some have introduced their own incentives, offering thousands in discounts to close the gap. Volkswagen, however, seems to be taking a different approach when it comes to the electric ID.Buzz, despite pressing pause on the model for 2026.

As of January 6, the ID.Buzz no longer qualifies for the up to $10,000 in savings that was available toward the end of last year. According to recent dealer bulletins, the $2,500 Dealer Bonus has been also pulled from all 2025 models.
It’s not all bad news, as there is still a $7,500 Customer Bonus available, albeit only for those purchasing the vehicle outright. As noted by Cars Direct, this offer does not extend to leases. That’s an interesting reversal, considering the ID.Buzz never qualified for the federal EV tax credit on purchases but did offer that amount as a leasing incentive.
While most would agree that VW nailed the nostalgic design of the ID.Buzz, it hasn’t been selling particularly well. Pricing is thought to be a major factor, with a starting figure of $61,545 being well beyond reach for many buyers.
On top of that, the EV delivers just 234 miles (376 km) of range, a figure that might have been acceptable five years ago, but feels underwhelming now, especially at this price point.
No 2026 Model as VW Rethinks Its Plans
Volkswagen sold 6,140 units of the ID.Buzz in the US last year, a figure that’s far from impressive and one that prompted the carmaker to scrap plans for a 2026 model. Instead, VW is shifting its focus to the 2027 version, possibly lining up more substantial changes in an effort to turn the EV’s fortunes around.
It’s unclear how many 2025 models remain in VW dealer inventories across the country, so eager shoppers should act fast. However, those with the patience to wait might be wise to sit on the sidelines for the 2027 model, in the hope it has more range and perhaps costs less.
