“mondepice Opens Permanent Tea & Spice Shop At Union Market”
1309 5th Street, NE – Booth 20
From a press release:
“Mondepice, the tea and spice brand familiar to Washington holiday market shoppers since 2018, has opened a permanent shop at Union Market. The store opened September 15, following a spring and summer pop-up at the market. The opening gives customers a year-round destination for loose-leaf teas, signature spice blends, flavored salts, matcha and culinary gift sets, with practical guidance on what to choose and how to use it.
Founder François Athea draws on a French family spice business spanning four generations, with roots dating to 1933. In 2009, he launched Spices & Tease in New York City, with locations at Chelsea Market and Grand Central Market. He began developing Mondepice in South Florida in 2017 and brought the brand to Washington’s holiday markets the following year.
“Since 2018, customers in Washington have asked where they could find us after the holiday markets closed,” says Athea. “Union Market gives us a permanent place to build those relationships and to show people what to do with the tea or spice they take home.”
That emphasis on use shapes the shop experience. Customers can explore blends by aroma and flavor, ask how to brew a particular tea, or find a seasoning for a specific dish. The selection ranges from white teas with cherry blossom to Jamaican jerk seasoning, flavored matcha and truffle salts.”
