“send Your Children To School On Mondays Or Be Sanctioned” – Soludo Threatens Parents, Reopens Onitsha Main Market
Anambra State governor, Charles Soludo, has threatened to sanction parents who refuse to send their children to school on Mondays, in compliance with the sit-at-home usually declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, led by Nnamdi Kanu.
Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed this on Monday, in a statement, announcing the reopening of the Onitsha Main Market for Monday, after its one-week shut down by the governor over traders’ observed the sit-at-home lockdown by not opening their shops last Monday.
The state government also threatened civil servants that they won’t receive their pay if they observe the illegal lockdown by not showing up at work on Mondays.
Mr Mefor said, “This is to inform the general public that the closure of Onitsha Main Market, ordered by Mr. Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR lapses this weekend.
“To that effect, all traders are hereby informed to resume business as usual on Monday, February 2, 2026, as there is no longer any form of sit-at-home on Mondays in Anambra State.
“Meanwhile, civil servants and teachers are reminded that pro rata salary system remains in force: no work on Monday, no pay. Also, parents must release their children for school on Mondays to avoid sanctions.”
The state government assured residents of adequate security and encouraged them to report any security concerns to 5111.
The reopening followed days of demonstrations on major road in the state, over the shut down of the market, during which the governor threatened to revoke the ownership of the property or demolish it, due to the traders’ continued closure of their shops on Mondays, causing “economically damaging disruptions”.
