“why” Led To An 8-figure Business

Card image cap

I sat in the circle, my back pressed deep into the couch behind me, and felt the need to take in a full gulp of air.

I was holding my breath (it’s what I unconsciously do when my anxiety skyrockets).

When I was a kid, it was common for my dad to smack my shoulder and say, “Breathe, man, breathe!”

He struggled with anxiety too, so seeing me inherit his trait pained him, but in typical immigrant fashion, we didn’t talk about it.

We, instead, pushed on.

Years later, when we finally learned how to put words to our emotions, my dad gifted me a rock engraved with the word: BREATHE.

It was peace offering then, a talisman now.

Sitting in the room with other 8-figure founders, I reminded myself of my dad’s rock and inhaled so deeply you might have thought I was drowning in an invisible ocean.

I was invited to mastermind with a small group of brilliant entrepreneurs and when my turn completed, I felt as though everything was spilled out in front of me and I didn’t know how to put the pieces back together.

It was like 10,000-piece Lego set…without instructions.

We ended the day by returning to our hotel rooms and quickly prepping for dinner.

I sat at the edge of my bed, took deep breaths, and reminded myself that I had felt this before. This experience wasn’t new. I had been through worse, and survived.

Masterminds are intended to make you uncomfortable. Growth comes from discomfort.

You see, that’s what getting around other business owners will do: It’ll force you to look at everything (your team, decisions, finances, approach, beliefs), and question it.

All of it.

Why do I think that? Why do I do that? Why do I think it’s right? Why can’t it change?

And when you answer this barrage of questions, you’re left with Lego-piece answers, all begging to be reassembled, but in a new way.

I’ve been home a week since the mastermind, and I’m just barely starting the assembly process. I needed time to evaluate where I wanted to start, and why.

But enough about me. Let’s put you in the mastermind room, sitting next to me on that brown couch.

If you’re ready to find new ways to grow and improve, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Why are you marketing that way?
  • Why are you selling that way?
  • Why do you believe it’s the right way?
  • Why haven’t you gotten the results you want?

Set a timer for 10-minutes and try to answer as many questions as you can. Continue that process until you can write no more.

I want you to answer until you’re so uncomfortable that I smack you on your shoulder and say, “Breathe, man, breathe!”

Just kidding.

No smacking, but don’t be surprised if I give you an engraved rock as a reminder.

P.S. Speaking of getting uncomfortable, I wanted to share a podcast I recently dropped that HAS GOTTEN SO MUCH BUZZ. To be honest, I was shocked. It’s just 10-minutes, but the feedback for “Jump and the Net Will Appear” has blown my mind.
