200 Educationusa Alumni Gather In Casablanca To Advance Us-morocco Ties
Rabat – The US Mission in Morocco brought together around 200 alumni of US universities, business leaders, and academic partners in Casablanca on Saturday, August 29, for an EducationUSA networking event focused on education, commerce, and regional development.
Held at Dar America Casablanca, the EducationUSA Alumni Networking Event 2026 brought together alumni from Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, and Dakhla. The gathering offered participants an opportunity to reconnect with fellow graduates of American universities and discuss areas for future cooperation.
The event also highlighted the contributions of US-educated Moroccans to the country’s workforce and entrepreneurial ecosystem, as well as their potential to strengthen commercial and institutional ties between Morocco and the United States.
US-educated alumni and Morocco’s economy
A central part of the event focused on the role of alumni in Morocco’s economic development and the country’s business relationship with the United States.
Jinane Laghrari, president of the Skills Development and Employability Commission at the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and an independent board director at Bank of Africa, joined Julianne Furman, general manager at Polydesign Systems, for a panel discussion on entrepreneurship and business ties.
The speakers examined how expertise gained through US higher education can contribute to Morocco’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and strengthen ties between Moroccan and American businesses.
Their discussion also identified priority sectors for investment and highlighted the competitive advantage that US higher education can provide to Morocco’s workforce.
Building bridges between universities and industry
The role of education in Morocco’s human capital development also featured prominently at the event.
Amine Bensaid, president of Al Akhawayn University, highlighted the contribution of US-educated alumni to Morocco’s human capital and their role as links between academia and industry.
His participation reflected the broader value of American higher education beyond individual academic careers, particularly through the professional connections and expertise alumni bring back to Morocco.
Spotlight on Dakhla-Oued Eddahab
The event also turned its attention to the economic potential of southern Morocco, with a focus on the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.
Saad Ismail, head of the Investor Support Division at the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Investment Center, and Nisrine Louzzi, director of the Dakhla Atlantic Port Construction Project, presented investment and development opportunities in the region.
The two speakers also highlighted potential areas for cooperation between regional stakeholders and US businesses, universities, and institutions.
The discussion placed the region within the broader conversation on economic development and the potential contribution of international partnerships.
A platform for cooperation
The Casablanca event provided a space for alumni of American universities to build professional connections and explore future collaborations.
With participants from several Moroccan cities and backgrounds, the gathering sought to strengthen a network of US-educated Moroccans who can contribute to cooperation across education, business, and regional development.
The event reaffirmed the US Mission’s commitment to expanding educational and commercial ties between the United States and Morocco through its alumni network and EducationUSA programs.
EducationUSA is a US Department of State network of more than 430 international student advising centers across over 175 countries and territories.
The network promotes US higher education by providing students worldwide with accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.
