8 Million T-mobile Customers Are About To Get Forced Onto More Expensive Plans

T-Mobile is doing everything it can to chase customers away. So much for the ‘Un-Carrier‘.

Remember when John Legere was CEO of T-Mobile during the 2010s, and really grew T-Mobile to what it is today after the failed merger with AT&T. It was dubbed the ‘Un-Carrier’, basically doing things that other carriers would never dream of doing. Well, T-Mobile has been quietly undoing all of that work. And now, they are forcing everyone to its new, more expensive plans.

Over the weekend, there were some rumblings about big news coming out of T-Mobile on Monday, with employees needing to attend a mandatory meeting. Well, The Mobile Report has gotten some exclusive information on what that actually is.

Customers on the Simple Choice and ONE Plan will be moved off of their grandfathered plans and onto more modern plans. T-Mobile is apparently creating plans specifically for these customers. Magenta plan customers may also be affected, but right now, that is unclear.

Likely, any plan not covered by the Price Lock that prevents price increases will be affected. Though we don’t know that for sure yet.

T-Mobile business customers are also getting hit with these changes.

How much will your bill go up?

Your bill is about to go up pretty substantially. Because T-Mobile is raising the cost of voice lines for these customers by $6 per line. Watch and tablet lines will go up by $3 per line, and customers with 5G Home Internet are going up by $6. That means a family with four phones on a plan would see a price increase of $24/month or $288/year.

T-Mobile is also ending the popular Kickback promo. This is where customers on its ONE plan could get $10 off per line that stayed under 2GB of data.

The Android Headlines Take

Obviously, T-Mobile is going to spin this as good news, when in actuality it’s only good news for investors. And by saying that customers will get some new perks that they may or may not use. Customers are being forced off of a plan that they obviously like (which is why they didn’t switch themselves), and being forced to pay more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a mass exodus of customers from T-Mobile to other carriers and even MVNOs.

If you are thinking about switching to a cheaper phone plan, it’s a good idea to check out an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). Mint Mobile is a great option and owned by T-Mobile running on their network. Another great option is US Mobile, which runs on T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon networks; you can also switch networks at any time.
