The Colorado Buffaloes are through four fall camp practices, and we finally were able to hear head coach Deion Sanders talk about his program entering year four of his tenure.

Coach Prime discussed a variety of topics, including the recent dialogue about his team being small, the biggest areas of improvement, his coaching staff, the retooled offensive line, roster turnover and a possible future series against Air Force.

Sanders seemed rejuvenated and excited for the 2026 season, stating multiple times that he can't wait to see what people are saying later this year.

Injury update to Danny Scudero, Kam Perry

Danny Scudero has been seen in a walking boot since camp began, but Sanders said on Thursday that the projected leading receiver for the Buffs is improving.

"Danny’s progressing, we’re hoping he’s gonna return sooner rather than later," Sanders said.

Coach Prime also noted that he expects Sudero to be ready to play Week 1 against Georgia Tech. Another transfer wide receiver that had an injury scare this week was Kam Perry, but Sanders says Perry is all good.

"Kam will be alright, he will be straight," Sanders said. "Everybody going to be good."

On not being a small team

Earlier this week when videos surfaced from practices, the narrative that Colorado is a small team resurfaced. Coach Prime went position by position, listed the average height and weight, debunking any "too-small" talk. He did not, however, mention the height and weight of his wide receiver room, which is small no matter how you slice it.

Biggest areas of improvement from the spring

Sanders was asked about the difference between spring practices and fall camp, saying what his players have echoed: the chemistry and unity are palpable.

"The unity, togetherness. Really understanding one another, what the coaches desire," Sanders said. "Practices have been wonderful and very competitive. They are understanding one another, what the coaches desire, tempo, and the way we practice. Practice is wonderful and competitive. You see skirmishes and fights, and if you don't see that, you have something wrong… Pleased with the effort we're getting."

On Sanders' new coaching staff being his best ever

"This is the best staff I've felt like I've ever had in my coaching career," Snades reiterated. "These guys are good. Fundamentally sound, creative, born leaders… The young men are responding to them… It's been great. I love the energy these coaches are providing."

On the revamped offensive line

Arguably the most important offseason change happened alongside the offensive line, where Colorado brought in a full cupboard of proven power four starters. Sanders believes he has eight players that can start and loves the presence they are bringing.

"Physicality. When you have eight or nine guys who can really start for you, you have to find a way to give them reps," Sanders said. "These guys aren't no jokes. They are violent."

On roster turnover year after year

"I look for mentality, I look for love of the game," Sanders said. "I don't talk business, I talk football."

Sanders wanted to make it now that he was at the forefront of the transfer portal era, but CU is far from the only team now to bring in 35-40 transfers each offseason.

"I don't think we're the only ones with a new group of people," Sanders repeated. "I was just one of the first ones to do it. When you're the first one to win the race, no one is applauding and clapping."

On a possible scrimmage with Air Force

"That's something I've been suggesting for quite some time, and the NCAA felt compelled to allow FCS teams to do so," Sanders said. "Even if we could practice in the same facility, we don't have to compete against one another."

He mentioned he wants to do a spring game with Air Force in the future, if not a home-and-home series.

On transfer linebacker Gideon Lampron

"He comes to practice every day," Sanders said. "Smart, intelligent, born leader, physical; he gets upset when the right pay isn't made. He's a football player… Just getting to know him, one of the best dudes on the team; gets along with everyone. I'm overpleased with the LB room.

For those who don't know, Sanders met Lampron on a plane, which is where the recruitment started. Coach Prime does not believe it happened by chance.

"That was a blessing for us and I thank God for it. He is a game-changer, he's a program changer he truly is."
