Anthropic’s newly public IPO filing has made Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) the chip name most tightly bound to the AI lab’s compute expansion, and a fresh analyst upgrade now puts a higher price target on that link. Broadcom stock is at $339.90, up 3% in early trade, a move that adds new weight to its custom chip business. The upgrade and a stronger semiconductor group are both feeding the gain.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) shares are at $218.41, up 1%, a smaller advance that leaves Broadcom stock out in front. Chip stocks are broadly stronger, with the iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:SOXX) up 2%. Large-cap tech is trailing that pace, as the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ) is up 0.6%.

DA Davidson Upgrade Puts a Price on Anthropic Ties

DA Davidson upgraded Broadcom stock to Buy from Neutral and raised its price target to $400, arguing that Anthropic’s IPO filing signals the AI spending cycle still has room to run. Under that thesis, Anthropic raises capital first and OpenAI follows, giving Broadcom the funding pipeline it needs to meet its growth expectations. Anthropic’s IPO registration, made public a day before the upgrade, describes Broadcom as both a supplier and a lessor of its AI computing equipment under a non-cancelable lease.

Those leases run five years and give Anthropic access to compute capacity built on tensor processing units (TPUs), with a portion online in 2026 and more slated to start in 2027. In April, Anthropic also deposited cash into a restricted account for Broadcom’s benefit to secure compute capacity. Such terms ground the upgrade in signed, collateralized commitments that run well beyond a single quarter.

Broadcom’s Concentrated Model Sets It Apart From NVIDIA and AMD

Broadcom designs custom AI accelerators for a small number of large customers alongside its networking chips, so its growth turns on a few buyers’ spending plans. NVIDIA sells general-purpose AI processors and systems to a broad customer base, and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) offers chips and AI accelerators across data center and PC markets. Spreading revenue across many buyers gives NVIDIA and AMD a buffer when any single customer slows its spending. AMD shares are up 2% to $544.

Broadcom’s recent results show how far that concentration has already carried the company. In Q3 FY2026, Broadcom’s AI semiconductor revenue reached $16.7 billion, up 221% year over year, and its Q4 FY2026 outlook calls for $21.7 billion. On the September earnings call, the company put Anthropic on track to become its largest custom accelerator customer in 2027.

However, so much of Broadcom’s growth rides on customers whose funding isn’t yet secured, as Anthropic’s lease obligations can accelerate on certain unresolved payment or performance defaults, which ties the arrangement to the lab’s ability to stay current. For NVIDIA, a broad customer base limits its dependence on any single lab’s capital raise, though that same breadth leaves it with less direct leverage to Anthropic’s listing.

Broadcom’s Upside Hinges on Anthropic’s Listing

Broadcom now faces the question of whether Anthropic completes its IPO and converts the filing into fresh capital. OpenAI’s fundraising stands behind that step, since the upgrade’s thesis counts on both companies raising money.

Anyone sizing up their exposure should adjust their holdings carefully given how much of Broadcom’s growth rides on a few customers whose funding is still being raised. Measuring a position with that concentration in mind, rather than on the upgrade alone, can mitigate the risk of slower-than-anticipated AI spending.
