Canada-us Trade Talks Continue As 50% Tariffs Deadline Nears

Trade talks between Canada and the U.S. are coming down to the wire as the Aug. 19th deadline approaches.

Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and his team were in Washington Monday, racing to reach a deal before the Trump administration imposes new 50 per cent tariffs on a range of Canadian goods.

The Canadian delegation and top American trade officials, including U.S. Trade Rep. Jamieson Greer, met with U.S. President Donald Trump’s commerce secretary in hopes of reaching an agreement.

Canadian officials “seek to reach a comprehensive deal that delivers for businesses, workers, farmers and families on both sides of the border,” LeBlanc’s office said.

As Reggie Cecchini explains, the two sides remain far apart on a number of key issues.
