Dust Off That Fleece: There’s A Nathan Fielder Lookalike Contest Later This Month

Gather your most deadpan pals: there's a Nathan Fielder lookalike contest looking to crown a local doppelgänger for the king of cringe comedy later this month. The contest, which is reportedly set for November 17 at the Paradise Theatre, is free to attend, and those who want to enter the competition, which has mostly been advertised via street posters, can register by Google form. https://www.instagram.com/p/DfFv0mkvMwb/?dlrf=MW1hZGltbXAzaTl4eg%3D%3D If you're looking for some tips on how best to resemble the Nathan for You star, you may find inspiration from a similar contest that took place in New York just before Halloween. Inspired by the wild success of Fielder's blockbuster documentary You Can See Everything, fans of the film descended on Washington Square Park in late October dressed as either a black-turtleneck-clad Elizabeth Holmes or a headphone-and-hoodie-wearing Fielder—complete with the obligatory salt-and-pepper wig, obviously. The winning Fielder at another upcoming New York contest will take home a Nathan for You–inspired bounty: a $50 gas rebate and a framed diploma from a prestigious business school. No word on what Toronto's wannabe Fielders can hope to win on November 17. You Can See Everything, which Fielder co-directed with Primetime's Lance Oppenheim, documents the final days before the disgraced Silicon Valley founder reported to prison to serve a 10-year sentence for defrauding investors. It's become the most talked-about film of the year since its October 16 release and has generated significant Oscar buzz. Variety called it a "wild card" disruptor and likened it to Obsession and Backrooms for its industry-recalibrating effects. Fielder and Oppenheim came to Toronto late last month to introduce a private screening of the film for Atom Egoyan and Sarah Polley, among others. During a post-screening Q&A with Globe and Mail film critic Barry Hertz, Fielder shared his love of the Fast & Furious film franchise.
