Empower Your Most Ai-curious Employees

Card image cap

Some of the employees best equipped to help your organization navigate AI may be the ones you rarely hear from. These “digital wayfinders” eagerly experiment with emerging technologies, challenge established practices, and spot possibilities others miss. They’re often junior employees, but what distinguishes them is their curiosity and willingness to explore uncertainty. Here’s how to harness their potential.

Open up communication. Seek out employees who are experimenting with AI and ask what they’re learning. Listen without becoming defensive and explain the reasoning behind organizational decisions. Candid, two-way conversations build trust and surface ideas you might otherwise overlook.

Encourage experimentation—with guardrails. Remove unnecessary bureaucracy, but establish clear boundaries around decision-making, business priorities, costs, and ethics. Help employees connect their ideas to your organization’s purpose so promising experiments can be adopted more broadly.

Provide air cover. Publicly support employees whose unconventional approaches challenge established ways of working. Offer candid feedback and guidance privately. By protecting their freedom to experiment while developing their business acumen, you can prevent promising innovations from being dismissed prematurely.
