Google’s New Ai Update Now Lets You Have Conversations With Gmail & Docs

Google has confirmed that it’s bringing a new update to its Gemini Audio models for Gmail, Docs, and Keep, which finally allows users to manage tasks, search information, and even draft content entirely through real-time voice conversations. Initially teased at this year’s Google I/O conference, the updates essentially bring a hands-free, conversational interface to the Workspace ecosystem.

For Gmail, the new “Gmail Live” feature replaces manual searches and filtering with conversational search. Users can now ask direct questions, such as inquiring about flight schedules or upcoming events, and the AI will scan their emails to deliver immediate answers.

For document creation, “Docs Live” acts as a hands-free assistant writer that builds structured drafts directly from spoken brainstorming. As users speak, the tool can organize their thoughts and format the document. With user permission, Docs Live can also automatically pull in relevant context and details from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the broader web.

The update also brings “Keep Live” to Google’s note-taking app, allowing users to record rapid, unstructured ideas without typing. The model then processes the recorded audio, and automatically converts them into organized, actionable lists and notes.

Google says that the new conversational tools will begin rolling out this week—Gmail Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live is restricted to Pro and Ultra tiers. Additionally, all three features are scheduled to launch for Google Workspace business customers in the near future.
