Google Tests Bigger Local Services Ads

Google is testing a much larger Local Services Ads format in Search, giving local advertisers more visual real estate just as the company is moving LSAs deeper into the Google Ads ecosystem.

Why it matters. Local Services Ads already occupy valuable space above traditional search results for many local queries. Making those listings larger could give participating businesses even greater prominence while potentially pushing organic results and other ad formats further down the page.

What’s new. The test gives Local Services Ads larger images and a more prominent highlight box beneath the main listing, according to screenshots spotted by Adsquire founder Anthony Higman

The visual shift. This isn’t simply a minor UI adjustment. The expanded imagery and additional information make individual LSA listings considerably more noticeable, potentially giving users more information about a local business before they click or make contact.

Why we care. Bigger listings could increase visibility and engagement for businesses running LSAs, particularly in competitive categories such as plumbing, HVAC, roofing and other home services. But they could also make participation in Google’s paid local ecosystem increasingly important for businesses competing for attention at the top of Search.

Yes, but. The bigger LSA design is currently a test. There’s no indication yet that Google will roll it out broadly, and Google says the LSA migration itself isn’t changing the Search and Maps positions where migrated ads are eligible to appear.
