- Days after her Sam Altman dinner invite sparked backlash, Gwyneth Paltrow is hitting back with memes.
- On Instagram, Paltrow posted a series of spoof invites honoring fictional characters like Shrek and Jessica Rabbit.
- AI is already part of Paltrow's business world, from her investments to how she runs Goop.
Gwyneth Paltrow has a response for critics of her dinner party for Sam Altman: more invitations.
The Goop founder posted a series of spoof invitations to Instagram on Thursday, just days after Puck reported she was planning a "private, off-the-record al fresco dinner" at her home in honor of the OpenAI CEO.
Puck had shared a graphic that appeared to be an invitation to the soirée, with blue lettering against a cream background. Paltrow's spoof invitations mimicked that design, but replaced Altman's name with those of fictional characters, including Jessica Rabbit, Shrek, and M3gan.
"We're serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request," the actor wrote in her caption.
Paltrow's post had garnered more than 800 comments by press time, drawing a range of reactions from social media users.
"Ah yes, honoring Shrek. Very aligned with the whole 'fairytale billionaire tech overlord dinner' aesthetic," one comment, which garnered almost 300 likes, read.
"Stop supporting AI giants. Hope this helps, Gwyneth," another comment, which had 500 likes, read.
Other users simply appeared confused by the posts, asking what the spoof invitations were supposed to mean.
"Can someone explain the joke to me please," one comment said.
News of the dinner had prompted backlash earlier this week.
Some social media users called Paltrow "tone-deaf," while the dinner's "off-the-record" nature also became a target of jokes and criticism online. On Reddit, a thread about the dinner had drawn nearly 500 comments, many of them speculating about who might have leaked the apparent invitation.
Paltrow's AI ties aren't new
The Marvel actor has increasingly ventured into the world of AI, both as an investor and through her wellness company.
Some of Paltrow's AI investments include the customer-service automation startup Forethought AI and the text-to-speech platform Speechify, among others. At the Meltwater Summit in May, she said her team at Goop uses AI to create assets, while she uses it as a "chief of staff."
Her Goop podcast has also increasingly featured guests from the AI world, including a June interview with Anduril cofounder Trae Stephens.
