Hannover Re is continuing to build-out its Bermuda-based insurance-linked securities (ILS) platform Hannover Re Capital Partners in 2026, with funds deployed for partnering investors already, the team being strengthened and a goal to onboard more investors while establishing new structures to support a range of investment opportunities.

The global reinsurance firm launched its Hannover Re Capital Partners operation at the beginning of 2026 and in advance of that had explained the rationale as putting in place a missing piece of Hannover Re’s ILS offering.

Remember, Hannover Re is already very active as a facilitator of catastrophe bonds and other insurance-linked securities arrangements, supporting sponsors, ILS fund managers and investors.

Earlier this year the company’s executives revealed that Hannover Re Capital Partners (HCP) started writing business at the January 1st 2026 reinsurance renewals.

The company also reported executive moves that put in place leadership of the HCP business unit, with Hannover Re’s Bermuda P&C leader Michael Eberhardt taking on the CEO of HCP position while Head of ILS Patrick Horstmann became a Director of the new unit.

In addition, Aaron García Ehrhardt was confirmed in a role as the Head of Capital & Underwriting at Hannover Re Capital Partners (HCP).

Capital deployment has continued through the year, we understand, while the focus is on continuing to build-out the platform, to service more investors with ILS investment opportunities.

A company spokesperson told Artemis in a statement that, “Hannover Re Capital Partners is operational and has already deployed partner capital in 2026. The platform is a complementation of Hannover Re’s established ILS offering, including collateralised fronting, cat bond-related and ILS Life activities.

“HCP gives investors access to tailored reinsurance portfolios focused on natural catastrophe business and is supported by Hannover Re’s underwriting expertise, modelling capabilities and global market access.”

The team build-out now continues for HCP, as Hannover Re puts in place the necessary expertise to support growth of the ILS strategies being offered.

The spokesperson explained, “Looking ahead, we are continuing to build the platform. This includes broadening the investor base including the establishment of structures that allow investors direct and efficient access to different strategies.

“For that reason, we have strengthened the team at HCP with new colleagues joining over the next few months.”

At this time we don’t have any details on HCP’s level of assets it has deployed, or how much is actually from third-party investors. Sources suggest the unit has deployed capital in the low hundreds of millions of dollars at this stage, but we cannot confirm.

We will of course report when any new joiners are revealed. It’s also notable that Hannover Re is currently hiring for a Senior Analyst, ILS to work in the Hannover Re Capital Partners unit in Bermuda (check out our Job Board for details), so the team build is ongoing.
