How Kansas City Chiefs Coordinator Eric Bieniemy Is Coaching From Home As Wife Recovers From Gunshot Wound

For some it may be a job, but for him it seems like passion! Kansas City Chiefs coordinator Eric Bieniemy is still involved in training camp despite being away, streaming practices from home while his wife recovers from a shooting.

Bieniemy stepped away from camp after his wife, Mia, suffered multiple gunshot wounds at their home in late July.

The incident also led to the arrest of their 27-year-old son, Elijah, who has been charged and is awaiting further court proceedings.

Eric Bieniemy remains involved with Chiefs despite absence from training camp

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach confirmed that Bieniemy has been watching sessions remotely and offering feedback to the coaching staff.

That input is still reaching players on the field.

Wide receiver Nikko Remigio said Bieniemy’s voice is being felt even without his physical presence.

Speaking to reporters, he said: ‘If it’s not (Eric Bieniemy) that’s saying it, it’s the coaching staff that’s reiterating the stuff that he’s saying.’

It highlights how connected Bieniemy remains to the offence during a difficult personal period.

Meanwhile, there has been a positive update on Mia Bieniemy’s condition.

Head coach Andy Reid confirmed she has been moved out of intensive care and continues to improve.

Reid said: ‘Mia’s doing better. She keeps improving by the day, so that’s a positive. There’s no timetable on EB coming back or any of that, so he just needs to take care of business there.’

That leaves the Chiefs balancing football with support for their coordinator.

Training camp continues in the meantime, with the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams scheduled for 15 August.

For now, Bieniemy’s focus remains away from the field, but his influence on the Chiefs offence is still clearly in place.
