I Will Not Promote - Linkedin Is A Cringefest But It Works For Lead Gen. Here's What I Did To Generate Leads And Get Clients

Card image cap

Over the last year, I grew my account to 7K followers and generated 20 leads for my business. And it was all via LinkedIn.

This is not a pitch about using a LinkedIn automation service or hiring someone to send templated messages with a bot.

I'll share some tips and tactics on how you can use LinkedIn to your advantage to book meetings, drive traffic to your website, and get clients.

  1. Optimise your profile

Your LinkedIn profile is basically a landing page. So, you need to design it in a way that clearly tells visitors what you do, who you help, and how you help.

If you can show some past results, that's even better.

Also, be sure to add a meeting/demo link in the Featured section because that's basically your CTA.

  1. Post consistently

It's a pain in the ass to post regularly, but it's key to building a following. Most founders struggle with it for a variety of reasons.

But it is the only way to get in front of your leads and gain their trust.

So here's what I suggest:

- Build a content strategy around 3 content buckets:

> Educate: Breakdowns, frameworks, and case studies to build authority.

> Storytell: Honest personal and career lessons in your niche to build trust.

> Sell: Client results and proof with zero filter to convert leads.

- Decide on a posting cadence, write your posts in advance, and schedule them. Be sure to rotate between the content buckets.

  1. Be known for something

Build a personal brand on LinkedIn. It's not complicated:

- Pick one niche that you know well and let the world know.

- Give away your expertise by sharing personal lessons and learnings.

- And remember, even the basic stuff you know has value. The 101 knowledge may have wider appeal than the more 401 stuff. Don't overestimate your prospects.

  1. This is key to remember (and will help you in all aspects of sales)

Nobody cares about your business. They care about themselves and only themselves.

Realize that the other person is self-centered when it comes to sales interactions. This will help you approach things in a way that benefits them, and rejection will sting less.

So, never connect with someone and immediately pitch them. Ever.

It’s not effective, and it shows that you only care about yourself.

  1. Gaming LinkedIn's algorithm

The new LinkedIn algorithm cares about 2 things:

- Is your profile and content matching? If you say you're a GTM expert, you should only post GTM content, nothing else. Otherwise, the algorithm gets confused and doesn't push your content.

- Does your content have mass appeal? The new LinkedIn update shows your content to a small test group of people in the first hour. That means your followers aren't even seeing your posts in the first hour. And if the test group doesn't like or comment on your posts, it will flop.

  1. Repurpose content

If a text post does well, repurpose it into carousels or infographics in the future. It can also be turned into blog posts, tweets, etc.

And you can reuse LinkedIn posts.

One of my LinkedIn posts got 5,000 impressions when first posted and 10K impressions when repurposed.

  1. Build your network

LinkedIn is a true social media platform for professionals now, so use it to your benefit.

Actually engage with people and start conversations.

It's a great way to find fellow founders or even get to know your ICP.

  1. Engage to get engagement

I'm not asking you to join a pod.

But leaving comments on other posts motivates people to comment on your posts as well.

1 popular comment can get you leads, followers, and many opportunities. So, focus on leaving 3-5 in-depth comments every day. This is the most underrated strategy in my opinion.

  1. Your LinkedIn competition is noise

The feed is filled with shitty posts, and inboxes are filled with pitch after pitch.

NEVER pitch someone right after you connect. It's a terrible way to do business.

If you want to message someone, personalize it or provide them with something of value without asking for anything.

Play the long-term game.

  1. Other things...

Don't use third-party tools because they can get your account restricted.

Try to start engaging slowly: 10 comments in week 1, 20 comments in week 2, and so on.

Stay genuine, help people, and build trust. That will automatically get you sales.

Anyway, that's a lot to take in for one post.

Happy to answer any questions, and if you sell anything in the B2B space and want to get started using LinkedIn.

It's a great platform when used properly. But still a cringefest.
