Kansas City Royals Announce Roster Moves On Monday
The Kansas City Royals are playing the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. Before the game, the ball club announced two roster moves. The Royals reinstated infielder/outfielder Michael Massey from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder/outfielder Nick Loftin to Triple-A.
Massey will make an impact for Kansas City. Loftin will look to earn his way back to the Royals in the future.
Michael Massey
Massey, 28, has spent parts of four seasons in Kansas City with the Royals. He has endured ups and downs during that time, but he can be an impactful player. For his career, the versatile Massey has recorded a slash line of .243/.283/.384 across 358 games played. In 2025, Massey hit .244/.268/.313 in 77 contests.
He offers defensive versatility, as Massey can play second base or the outfield. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Massey is a player who should impact the team in an important manner.
Nick Loftin
Loftin, 27, has spent parts of seasons since 2023 with Kansas City. He can also move around the field and play multiple positions.
He has hit .220/.296/.323 in 147 career games played. Loftin slashed .222/.364/.333 through four games played in 2026.
It would not be surprising to see him earn a big league promotion at some point once again this year. His versatility helps the Royals. For now, he will look to perform well at Triple-A in hopes of catching the Royals' attention once again.
Royals vs. Guardians Series
The Royals are playing the Guardians in Cleveland on Monday. Monday's contest represents the first of a three-game series.
Cleveland entered Monday's game with a 6-4 record, which was good for first place in the American League Central division. Kansas City was second at 4-5 overall.
It is obviously far too early to be too concerned about the standings. Still, this series is important for earning early-season momentum in the AL Central.
Perhaps Massey can help the Royals take care of business on the road. However, the Guardians are more than capable of getting the job done at home.
Following the series with the Guardians, the Royals will return home for another AL Central clash against the Chicago White Sox. The four-game series will begin on Thursday and go through Sunday.
The Royals have a number of important contests coming up. It will be interesting to see how they perform against their American League Central rivals.
