The folks at Capitol Hill’s new Kha-Bar are inviting neighbors to stop in and help shape the new restaurant dedicated to a contemporary approach to Bengali flavors.

“We are so excited to bring vibrant modern fusion East Indian heritage flavors to Capitol Hill,” they write in their “soft opening” announcement. “During this soft launch period, we invite you to taste, gather, and help us refine the ultimate Kha-Bar experience before our grand opening.”

CHS reported here on the project from Kathak dancer and choreographer Chitralekha Majhi and husband Manash Majhi to make the leap into the restaurant business with hopes of creating a new neighborhood hangout right next to the NOD Theater and eXit Space School of Dance on 12th Ave.

The restaurant space was most recently home to Korean joint Soju Anju.

The new opening is the second in recent weeks along this stretch of 12th Ave. Pizza by the cut joint Roma Roma opened across the street in February.

The Majhis set about an ambitious overhaul, creating what they say is a dining room blending “industrial brick charm with lush botanical accents for a serene, sophisticated escape” and the front bar “illuminated by tiered crystal chandeliers and lined with backlit shelves of premium spirits” that provides an “intimate backdrop.”

The opening menu includes Doi Phuchka with sweet chutneys, an Egg Chop Cutlet, and classics like Paneer Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken. Kha-Bar is also featuring ramens and curries for lighter daytime meals.

Chitralekha Majhi told CHS Kha-Bar was being shaped with a plan that includes daytime business around delivery of meal options to offices and families to help augment the restaurant’s growth in the Capitol Hill dining scene.

Kha-Bar is open 11 AM to 11 PM at 1621 12th Ave. Learn more at khabarseattle.com.
