Knight Gave Robins Team-mates 'harsh Truths'
Bristol City captain Jason Knight gave his team-mates "harsh truths" following the defeat by Leicester City that saw the Robins fall further behind in the Championship play-off race.
The loss to the Foxes was the Robins' fourth consecutive defeat and their third in the league, while they were also dumped out of the FA Cup by League One side Port Vale last week.
City are now 12th in the table, seven points behind Wrexham in sixth place, before a trip to second-placed Middlesbrough on Saturday with nine games of the season to go.
"It was a few harsh truths - and that's individually to myself as well - as a group what we need to do and my opinion of how we can improve in all aspects of the game," Knight told BBC Radio Bristol.
"That's the key, in all aspects we need to do better."
A win at West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day pushed Bristol City up to sixth, but just four victories in 13 league games since the start of the new year - plus two draws and seven losses - mean they have fallen off the pace.
A lack of goals has been an issue - City have not scored in seven of those 13 games - while their home form has also suffered, with just two wins out of seven at Ashton Gate in 2026, with one of those against already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday.
"We haven't turned the screw when we've been on top, we haven't got the substance out of the goodness that we've done and that's all that matters really," Knight said.
"You can play all the good stuff you want - it's about results.
"There's been plenty of games this year where we haven't played the best of football but we've got the result and that's what we've got to get back to - fundamentals of how we go abut our business, winning duels, winning tackles, defending our box properly."
The Robins have a strong track record against Boro, having come away with a win in each of their past five meetings.
But Knight added that the team need to show "character" on Saturday.
"It's a tough game but it's something we've got to relish now, we've got to go up there and show a bit of character and get a good result," he said.
"It's now time to step up and that's people coming in and maybe filling positions they're not used to - it's time to deliver and I always include myself in that."
