Linkedin Wants To Be The Home For Your Side Hustle, Not Just Your Resume

Do you work more than one job? Maybe you have a regular 9-5 job, but on the side, you might run a YouTube channel, sell products, and so on. That has actually become the norm for many. Now, it looks like LinkedIn wants to help you with your side hustles by introducing new features to help you reach a wider audience.

LinkedIn introduces new features for side hustles

For the most part, LinkedIn has always felt like a glorified resume. You put your education and your job there, like you would a resume, but it has the added benefit of allowing you to connect with others. This is useful if you’re looking to network to expand your business, talk with other like-minded individuals, or maybe find a new job.

But now, LinkedIn is hoping to appeal to those with side hustles. This comes in the form of three new main features. One of which is an all-in-one creator dashboard. This helps creators better understand whether the content they’re sharing is working while discovering new ways to grow and maybe even earn money.

Speaking of earning money, LinkedIn is introducing in-stream ads for videos. So instead of you uploading entirely to YouTube, you can share videos natively on LinkedIn and earn money from pre-roll video ads. However, that’s assuming your video is eligible, but it’s still a good alternative.

Lastly, LinkedIn is giving users the ability to offer 1:1 consultations from their profile. Consultation sessions aren’t new, but before that, users had to rely on third-party services for hosting, scheduling, and payments. Now you can do it all natively within LinkedIn’s platform.

Of course, whether all of this will help you earn more money as a side hustle remains to be seen. But it’s there if you want to take advantage of it.

Other changes

Aside from the creator suite and monetization tools, LinkedIn is rolling out updates focused on strengthening interpersonal and professional networking. Members can now design and personalize digital business cards to add straight to mobile digital wallets. Premium subscribers can also use private profile notes to log key connection details.

LinkedIn is also testing a dedicated Network feed in select regions. This includes the US, India, the UK, and Australia. These feeds will pull posts exclusively from direct connections and followed accounts away from the main algorithm.

Last but not least, the platform is introducing community engagement features for creators and posters. Authors can now pin helpful comments to the top of their discussion threads.
