BATON ROUGE — For the second time this season, LSU football is looking to rebound from a loss.

Lane Kiffin and the No. 21-ranked Tigers (4-2, 1-2 SEC) fell 35-34 in overtime on the road at Kentucky this past Saturday. It was the second loss on the season away from the home.

LSU returns to the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium to take on longtime rival Mississippi State (4-1, 2-1) on Saturday, Oct. 17 (11 a.m. CT, ESPN). This will be the first time the Tigers have had a game start earlier than 6 p.m. this season.

LANE KIFFIN ON KAMARIO TAYLOR Lane Kiffin calls Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor 'a problem'

Bulldogs quarterback Kamario Taylor has been one of the breakout stars of this college football season. He's thrown for 1,450 yards and 17 touchdowns with four interceptions and led his team to a 4-0 start before losing to Alabama.

LSU and Mississippi State have not played since 2023 with the Southeastern Conference dropping divisions to accommodate the additions of Texas and Oklahoma. But LSU has won three straight games against the Bulldogs.

LSU vs Mississippi State prediction

The last time LSU lost under Kiffin a few weeks ago, it was able to properly bounce back at home and take care of business. Quarterback Kamario Taylor, in head coach Jeff Lebby's high-flying offense, poses a real threat to any defense. And this game being an 11 a.m. kickoff also feels like is a disaster waiting for the Tigers. This game will be high scoring. The question is which defense will find enough stops to seal the win. I think the Tigers are better suited for that with Mississippi State's defense giving up almost 40 points a game in SEC play. LSU 52, Mississippi State 38
