Marshals Season 2 Trailer Turns Kayce Dutton Into A Full-blown “chaos Magnet”

Kayce Dutton can change jobs, change scenery and try to build a new life, but trouble keeps finding the guy.

The first trailer for Season 2 of Marshals has arrived, and the Yellowstone spinoff is cranking up the action with explosions, missing kids, complicated romances and Luke Grimes’ Kayce climbing onto a moving train carrying a very large gun. Because apparently being a U.S. Marshal wasn’t dangerous enough already.

CBS released the new footage giving us our first real look at where Kayce and his team are headed after the Season 1 finale.

One of the biggest questions involved Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Pete “Cal” Calvin and Deputy U.S. Marshal Isabel “Belle” Skinner-Turek, played by Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel. The pair ended last season caught in a shootout, but the trailer confirms they survived.

They’re also looking considerably closer than they were before, with Cal and Belle apparently developing a romance amid all the bullets and federal law enforcement business.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Andrea Cruz is sticking around as well. Ash Santos’ character had been considering taking a job in Washington, D.C., and even said goodbye to the team, but those plans don’t appear to have lasted.

Cruz also has Kayce figured out pretty well at this point, calling him trouble before delivering an extremely accurate assessment of the cowboy: “You really are a chaos magnet, cowboy,” she adds.

Considering everything Kayce has lived through across Yellowstone and Marshals, it’s hard to argue with her. The more serious problem involves Kayce’s son Tate, played by Brecken Merrill.

Tate remains in danger following his bass fishing trip in Texas with Tom Weaver, played by Chris Mulkley. Weaver is the Wall Street trader-turned-rancher who has been trying to purchase East Camp, which puts Kayce in another ugly fight involving his family and the land around them.

Kayce’s romantic life isn’t getting any simpler either. He continues growing closer to Dolly Weaver, played by Ellyn Jameson, and their relationship looks serious enough for Kayce to start asking some pretty personal questions.

There’s one major complication attached to that relationship, though. Dolly is Tom Weaver’s daughter, meaning Kayce is falling for the daughter of the man currently threatening his son, so family dinners should be fun!

As you’d expect from a series produced by Taylor Sheridan, land, family and the violence tied to both remain at the center of the story. Kayce appears to be realizing that his problems were never confined to the Yellowstone ranch.

“That Dutton family legacy… it was never about land,” Kayce says. “It’s about always having to fight. Seems like no matter where I live, someone’s willing to kill for it.”

Season 2 looks ready to push that idea even further. Kayce may have traded ranch life for a badge, but he’s still a Dutton, and that means somebody is inevitably coming after his family, his home or both.

Marshals Season 2 premieres October 4 on CBS.
