THE motive for killing political vlogger Alicia Lipata, or “Mima Alicia,” was an P8 million debt as well as personal disagreements between her and the alleged masterminds of her murder, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Friday.

“The motive, it’s about the profession, and they also have a personal grudge, personal disagreement na nagsimula sa utang na P8 million,” Nartatez told reporters on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Threat and Security Symposium on Boracay Island resort, Malay, Aklan.

Nartatez clarified that Alicia owed P8 million to her business partners, who suspects previously arrested have identified as the “masterminds.”

“They were named. We unmasked them. That is the motive, but if [there were] other motives, the mastermind siya lang ang makakasagot (only the mastermind knows),” Nartatez said.

Alicia was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants outside her home in Barangay 171, Caloocan City in the early hours of July 17.

Her live-in partner, who was with her during the attack, was critically wounded but survived.

Initial police information indicates that Lipata and her partner had just arrived at their house when two unidentified armed assailants approached them and shot her as she stepped out of their vehicle.

She was declared dead on the spot.

The gunman and the rider were arrested in a police operation in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, on July 23.

Firearms and hand grenades were recovered from their possession.

Alicia is a pro-administration content creator known for her YouTube channel “Alicia Comments.”

She is widely known for supporting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and criticizing the Duterte family, particularly Vice President Sara Duterte.

Authorities earlier said they were looking into several angles for the killing, including her outspoken online views and her previous lawsuits that stemmed from clashes with several online personalities.
