Minnesota Twins' Series Vs. Guardians Draws 'hilarious' Admission
The Minnesota Twins earned a 2-1 series victory against the Cleveland Guardians this past weekend. The games were quite competitive, as they were all separated by two runs or less. Cleveland began the series with a win, earning a 6-4 victory on Friday. On Saturday, the Twins bounced back with a 2-1 win. Minnesota then won again 5-4 on Sunday.
For the Twins, it was a good series. The ball club is trying to find consistency and their performance against Cleveland was a step in the right direction. Former player Trevor Plouffe shared an honest take on the series while speaking on Talkin' Baseball.
"Twins-Guards is just a hilarious series," Plouffe said.
He continued by saying the Twins should not have won the second game of the series. He felt that the teams having three hits total before extra innings was hilarious. The offenses were certainly not at their best on Saturday night in Cleveland. He was surprised that the Twins got the win despite their lackluster overall offensive performance.
The Twins certainly needed a series like that, however. Minnesota is still in the American League Central standings conversation, so taking two out of three games from a good ball club like Cleveland is obviously crucial.
The Twins proved that they could win close games with the series victory. Minnesota has endured ups and downs in close games this year, but finding a way to take care of business on the road against a talented Guardians ball club was impressive.
Twins Looking to Continue Playing Well
Minnesota is now 18-23 overall in 2026. The Twins are only three games behind the Guardians for first place in the AL Central standings.
The AL Central projects to be a competitive division all season long. It would not be shocking to see any of the AL Central teams end up winning the division. There is no clear favorite at the moment.
With that being said, teams such as the Guardians, Royals and Tigers are likely still the front-runners. Anything can happen, but the Twins are not expected to make a legitimate run. They are hoping to prove the doubters wrong.
Minnesota will return home this week to host the Miami Marlins in what should be a good series. The series is set to begin on Tuesday and last through Thursday.
First pitch for the Marlins and Twins game on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST in Minnesota.
