Mrmc Celebrates 60 Years… And Is No Longer A Nikon Company
Acquired by Nikon in 2016, as part of the company’s business strategy, MRMC is going to be present at the 2026 NAB Show with its own stand, as the company celebrates 60 Years In Motion.
What a difference a few months make. Last September British cinematographer magazine announced, under the title, “Nikon, RED and MRMC to join forces at IBC2025”, that Nikon would exhibit at the IBC Show 2025, joining forces with RED and MRMC for one combined booth. We’re in April 2026 and MRMC will be at the 2026 NAB Show with its own stand, as a new participant in the show. Although its booth is just right besides Nikon’s, the company is now a separate entity, as Nikon revealed on March 26 that “it has entered into a share purchase agreement with MRMC Bidco Limited, an entity established by Blandford Capital LLP, regarding Mark Roberts Motion Control Limited (MRMC), a Nikon Group company, as follows.”
The information about the “Transfer of Mark Roberts Motion Control Limited” adds that “since acquiring 100% of MRMC’s shares in October 2016, Nikon has been developing business by utilizing MRMC’s robotic motion control solution together with Nikon’s imaging related technologies and its broad sales channels. This time, Nikon has reconsidered its business portfolio. As a result, Nikon has concluded that transferring all of its shares in MRMC to MRMC Bidco Limited is the most appropriate course of action, and has entered into this agreement.”
The announcement happens as Mark Roberts Motion Control celebrates 60 years. Mark Dethridge Roberts – the founder and visionary behind Mark Roberts Motion Control, founded Mark Roberts Film Services, in 1966, working from a spare room of his home in Berkshire. According to the information shared by MRMC, “his early days were a testament to sheer determination, servicing special‑effects equipment in London during nights and weekends while spending the rest of his time designing electronic control systems that would replace the electromechanical solutions of the era. By 1972, after moving his family to East Grinstead, Mark continued working from home, producing a simple computer system for animation stands that synchronised motion between the table and the camera. It was humble, innovative, and the beginning of something extraordinary.”
