One Of Toronto's Best Thai Restaurants Quietly Opens New Downtown Location

A Toronto Thai restaurant with a Michelin nod is expanding its footprint in the city, opening a new location in one of downtown's coolest neighbourhoods.

While big names on the Toronto Thai food scene, like Pai, tend to make up a disproportionate amount of restaurant recommendations in this city, the Michelin-recommended Som Tum Jinda has slowly but surely been cementing its star status.

Founded in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, the restaurant's original location boasts Bib Gourmand status and more than 60 years of experience serving Northern Thai cuisine on home turf.

In 2023, the business ventured overseas, settling in the Yonge and College area and promptly earning a recommendation on Toronto's own Michelin guide in 2024. Since then, it's been nothing short of a sensation, even voted one of the city's best Thai restaurants by blogTO readers.

In 2025, the restaurant set its sights north, opening an outpost at Fairview Mall, and as of April 23, Som Tum Jinda's stronghold in Toronto has expanded once again.

The day it launched its soft opening, Som Tum Jinda announced the existence of its secretive third location at the corner of College and Brunswick, taking over the former home of Caplansky's Deli.

Perched on the borders of Little Italy and Kensington Market, the new location is primed to feed scores of hungry urban explorers as foot traffic and temperatures increase in harmony.

At Som Tum Jinda, you can expect to sample from a large menu of Isan, northeastern Thai, dishes, running the gamut from soups and salads to bountiful piles of noodles and stir fry.

Som Tum Jinda College is located at 356 College St.
