Ontario Just Got Its First-ever Co-baking Studio And Here's How It Works

Baking beginners and enthusiasts alike have a new home base in Ontario at a new 'co-baking studio,' where bakers share a space while concocting sweet creations.

Baking is the ultimate hobby: it's relaxing, creative, and yields droolworthy results, but it can also be a serious headache. If you're missing the right equipment, ingredients or expertise, what was meant to be a fun way to unwind can quickly turn into a nightmare.

That's why the team behind Bakebe, Ontario's first and only co-baking studio, created a space that has everything sorted out, right down to the recipe.

Officially opening its doors at Markham's CF Markville Mall in late 2025, Bakebe is turns the concept of baking as a solitary, at-home activity on its head, with a sleek, communal kitchen stocked with all the equipment and ingredients you could possibly need to make your sweet masterpiece.

Better yet, you don't even need to come equipped with your own recipe. Instead, when you arrive, you're given an iPad loaded with Bakebe's app, where you can choose from a selection of different cake recipes to bake.

The app guides you through the entire process of making your creation, while in-house baking experts are on hand to help you iron out any kinks that, if your baking skills (or lack thereof) are anything like mine, are bound to arise.

According to Bakebe's website, the studio's collection of recipes, which is populated by everything from a cake in the shape of a unicorn's head to one that appears to be in the process of demolition by a toy digger perched atop it, has been crafted by "talented pastry chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants," and is virtually "foolproof."

That means that, whether you identify as a baking whiz or a complete noob, you'll still walk away with a final product you can be proud of — barring some catastrophic-level kitchen disaster.

Reservations can be made online through Bakebe's website, with both the price and time length varying by the recipe you choose. Most cakes sit around the $105 and 3-hour mark, while you can also opt to create cupcakes for around $70 or rolled cakes for $90.

While communal baking classes have been around since time immemorial, Bakebe signals a new era for the baking business: one where technology and the tradition of baking are woven together to call in even more budding bakers.

Bakebe is located at CF Markville in Markham.
