Phlpost Elected Head Of Asean Postal Cycle
THE Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) has been elected chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) postal cycle for 2027–2028.
The post gives the country a leadership role in strengthening regional postal services and the growing demands of cross-border commerce.
The election was held after the three-day 32nd Asean Postal Business Meeting and 2026 ASEANPOST++ Meeting hosted by the Philippines this week in Pasay City.
The event brought together postal leaders and representatives from Asean member states and partner countries to discuss cross-border e-commerce, logistics, customs coordination and universal service obligations, which concern the provision of basic postal services.
PHLPost Postmaster General Maximo Sta. Maria III said the Philippines is ready to build on the discussions and turn regional cooperation into concrete programs, stronger partnerships and more responsive postal services.
”This is more than a recognition for the Philippines. It is a responsibility to lead, listen and turn our shared ideas into action,” Sta. Maria said.
He said cooperation among postal operators is essential to keeping postal networks relevant and responsive to changing industry demands.
The Philippines’ election as chairman follows its hosting of this year’s meetings, chaired by Malaysia Post Chief Executive Officer Charles Brewer.
PHLPost said the incoming chairmanship will give the Philippines a stronger role in shaping the region’s postal agenda and advancing initiatives intended to benefit postal operators and customers.
