1802 14th Street, NW previously home to a Lou Lou Boutique
From a press release:
“Pitango Gelato, the authentic Italian gelateria and coffee shop with locations throughout the Washington, DC, region and Baltimore, is thrilled to officially announce the opening of a highly anticipated new shop along DC’s 14th Street corridor. The store, opening on February 27th at 1802 14th Street, NW, is Pitango’s eighth location. The new gelateria and coffee shop will serve freshly brewed coffee, Italian baked goods, and artisanal, hand-spun gelato made with high-quality, carefully curated ingredients. The 1,027-square-foot space, designed by EastWing Architects, will also offer indoor seating for up to 10 guests.
To celebrate its official debut, the gelateria and coffee shop will host a festive grand opening on Friday, February 27th. Beginning at 5pm,
Les the DJ will spin Italo disco while Pitango serves scoops of gelato and pours complimentary shots of seasonal Hot Italian Sipping Chocolate, made with single-origin Côte d’Ivoire chocolate, from its signature Pitango-green gelato cart. The first 50 guests to visit the store during the opening celebration will receive a complimentary Pitango-branded t-shirt and tote bag. In support of the region’s immigrant community, Pitango will donate $1 from every gelato purchase to Ayuda.
Pitango places an emphasis on simple, high-end ingredients, from pistachios grown in Sicily’s Mt. Etna region to single-origin chocolates. The company makes its own gelato using milk from grass-fed cows on a family farm in Baltimore County; its sorbets are handmade from whole, fresh fruit. Pitango products are prepared from scratch and contain no preservatives, or artificial colors or flavors. Batches are churned in each shop to ensure the freshest possible flavor.
In addition to 20 rotating gelato and sorbet flavors, the 14th Street store will feature an extensive coffee menu of custom blends crafted in collaboration with local roastery Vigilante Coffee, and a selection of sweet and savory hand-baked goods made at Pitango’s own Baltimore bakery.
“As an independent and locally owned business, we are so excited to officially reopen our doors in the lively 14th Street neighborhood, where Pitango humbly planted its DC roots 18 years ago,” shares Dinah Bengur, CEO of Pitango. “We are thrilled to join the exciting lineup of creative restaurants, bars, and stores in the neighborhood, and to reintroduce guests to our from-scratch gelato flavors and locally roasted coffee.”
The new DC shop highlights Pitango’s signature design elements, including the traditional, custom mahogany and marble bancone counter featured at its other locations.”
