The EastBurn, a gastropub, taproom, and host to multiple weekly community events, has closed. Though a sign on the business’s door states that the bar is closed for “Staff Meeting & Maintenance,” a former employee who wished not to be named confirmed the permanent closure to the Mercury on Wednesday, June 10, citing slow business as the reason for the closure. The Mercury has reached out to EastBurn’s ownership for comment and will update this story when we learn more.

The EastBurn, which opened in 2008, was home to several weekly events, including comedy nights, open mics, and trivia. For 13 years, the EastBurn’s basement was home to a Monday night comedy show called It’s Gonna Be Okay, hosted by Barbara Holm, with comedian Lewis Sequeira later joining as co-host. Holm is currently looking for a new venue for the show.

“I grew up a lot over the last 13 years, and I owe a lot of it to this room,” Holm said in a June 10 Instagram reel. “I fell in love in this room. I made some of my closest friends in this room. I’m so grateful to all of the comedians who came to perform and support the show. I’m so grateful to the bartenders, especially Bobby, Andy, Candace, Sienna, and of course Chris Copeland. Of course, most of all, thank you to Lewis, and thank you to the audience who came out and laughed and brought trinkets for the comedians and drew pictures of us and cried with us and became our best friends. Thank you for building a community with us.”

ShanRock’s Triviology also took place every Thursday at Eastburn, as well as weekly events at other venues around town. ShanRock’s website has been updated to note Eastburn’s closure.

“ShanRock is our favorite trivia in town,” says Neil Roberts, whose trivia team, Ska Rules, You Suck, attended trivia at EastBurn almost every Thursday for the past year and won Shanrock’s championship in 2025. “The trivia host, John, has done a fantastic job of just creating a real sense of community in the EastBurn basement. Everybody who comes in knows his name, he knows everybody else’s name. The regulars shout out all the rules together, and the newcomers get the hang of it really quick.”

Along with its events, the EastBurn also offered a gastropub-style menu with everything from burgers to benedicts to stacked Bloody Marys, including a fried chicken and biscuit number (with optional bacon). This story will be updated.
