Punjab To Finance Home Repairs With Interest-free Loans Of Up To Rs10lac
LAHORE – For thousands of families living under leaking roofs and in crumbling homes, there is some good news as Punjab government expanded its ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ programme, allowing eligible low-income households to access interest-free loans of up to Rs. 10 lakh not only to build new homes but also to repair existing ones and construct new roofs.
Maryam Nawaz led government expanded its flagship “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing program, allowing eligible citizens to obtain interest-free loans ranging from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 1 million not only for building new homes but also for repairing dilapidated houses and constructing new roofs.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, marking a major expansion of the government’s affordable housing initiative aimed at improving living conditions for vulnerable households across the province. The meeting was attended by the Secretary Housing, the President of the Bank of Punjab, and the Director General of PHATA, who presented a detailed progress report on the scheme’s implementation.
“Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program already provided interest-free loans to 170,000 families, enabling thousands of low-income households to move closer to owning safe and secure homes. Building on this progress, the Punjab government has now set an ambitious target of extending the facility to another 100,000 families during the next fiscal year.
Under expanded policy, the scheme will specifically benefit low-income citizens, homeless individuals, and families living in temporary, damaged, or unsafe housing, offering financial support for both home construction and essential structural repairs.
Addressing the meeting and a subsequent press conference, Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said the initiative is being implemented on the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, with all financing being provided completely interest-free through a transparent and affordable mechanism.
To simplify the application process, the minister announced that eligible applicants will be able to apply for loans of Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 1 million through a dedicated online e-portal, eliminating the need to visit government offices or wait in long queues.
The digital application system is expected to make the process faster, more accessible, and more transparent, allowing citizens to complete the entire application process from home.
With the latest expansion, the Punjab government aims to address not only the shortage of affordable housing but also the urgent need to rehabilitate aging and unsafe homes, offering much-needed financial relief to thousands of deserving families across the region.
