Red Sox Down White Sox, Clinch Ninth Consecutive Series Win

The Red Sox are 30-5 in their last 35 games. It just keeps going.

Willson Contreras exited the contest early with an illness while Boston took care of business behind a fantastic night on the mound and a few timely swings at the plate with a 4-0 victory. 

Here’s three takeaways from Wednesday night’s win. 

SONNY BOUNCES BACK

Boston’s veteran had started an honestly scheduled regression over his past two starts with 12 earned runs allowed over 12 innings. Gray looked much more like himself in the style of someone who had been one of baseball’s more efficient starters since returning from the injured list of May. 

Gray spun the ball at his best against the American League Central leaders with six scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits and walked two batters with eight strikeouts en route to his 14th victory of the season, tied with Phillies ace Cristopher Sanchez for the most in MLB. 

WILYER WON’T STOP SLUGGING
Abreu smashed his ninth home run since the All-Star break to drive the Red Sox offense. That mark leads the majors since in less than three weeks since the season resumed. The swing broke a tie with Washington’s CJ Abrams with eight long balls in that stretch. 

Abreu is the second Red Sox hitter to slug 20 homers on the season (stunning!), joining Willson Contreras with 23.
