The lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Mr Anamero Dekeri, has described legislating as a serious business that is not confined to the walls of the National Assembly, adding that it entails purposeful constituency engagements, taking governance to the grassroots, touching lives, empowering communities, and creating opportunities where none previously existed.

He stated this at the weekend during an interaction with the media in Abuja.

Mr Dekeri, who said he has laid the foundation for developmental benchmarks that can’t be undermined by future generations, noted that the construction and equipping of health centers has helped in reducing preventable deaths.

“When legislators approach their responsibilities with sincerity of purpose, governance becomes meaningful, and democracy will deliver real dividends to the masses. A performing grassrooted Legislator can deliver victory for a vulnerable president or party and that is the power in taking legislating beyond the walls of the chamber. If a Legislator is far removed from his people by confining himself to the walls of the National Assembly without visible impact, such a legislator is a political risk to his party during an election”, he said.

The lawmaker, who unveiled his score card in the last two years said, he has provided jobs and influenced numerous job opportunities for those who seek such support within his constituency.

He said: “I have identified employment as a catalyst that helps in making dignity tangible. It is the pathway through which youth move from dependency to resourcefulness, and communities shift from subsistence to productivity. Securing employment for our people will continue to be my highest inspiration as i will continue to serve their interest.

“If you have been following my activities you would have observed that I have constantly addressed the core of social stability in my constituency through support for vocational training, planting the seeds of self-reliance among Etsako youths through cash support and startup kits to encourage small and medium enterprise, and youth empowerment programmes with multiplier effect in terms of job creation.”

The lawmaker, in a statement by his Special Assistant on media, Mr Benjamin Atu, outlined his educational strides which he said has been his passion.

He said: “I am one Legislator in Nigeria that is known for prioritising education and this is because education is the surest ladder out of poverty and the most durable foundation of national progress. I have spearheaded this crusade through my constantly offering of educational scholarship both home and Abroad. My passion for education is evident in the number of schools I have built across my constituency and the high-class educational facilities I have provided for the comfort of both teachers and students without leaving the NYSC members behind. We already built corpers’ Lodge at Okugbe Okpella Etsako East local Government Council to accommodate NYSC members.”

While assuring the people of Etsako Federal Constituency of his continued support, he said: “In communities where finances determine whether a child sits for a crucial examination, my educational scholarship and intervention of free WAEC registration has made it possible for bright disadvantage children to become graduates and this is why my effort in this regard has been described by my people as transformational. I have constantly embarked upon free WAEC registration of indigent students, and the last was about 5,000 students in this 2026 WAEC examination. The same gesture is extended to members of my constituency in higher institutions. The best graduating students from the Faculty of law University of Benin UNIBEN one Mr Emmanuel Eshiozemhe recently got N1 million educational support. These are practical Legislative efforts beyond the chamber.”
