Samsung spent a record 27.3 trillion won (US$19 billion) on research and development (R&D) during the first six months of 2026. The spending was 51.5 percent higher than the 18.06 trillion won Samsung spent during the same period last year.

R&D means spending money to develop new technology, products and ideas. Samsung’s higher spending shows that the company is focusing on new technology and future growth.

Samsung also spent 28 trillion won on buildings, equipment and other facilities during the first half of 2026. This was almost 5 trillion won more than the company spent in the same period last year.

Samsung said this money was mainly used to build important facilities for its semiconductor and display businesses. These investments are expected to help the company grow over the coming years.

The company also reported the payments received by two senior executives. Jun Young-hyun, who leads Samsung’s Device Solutions division, received 2.39 billion won in the first half of the year. Roh Tae-moon, Samsung’s co-chief executive officer who is responsible for the mobile business, received 7.4 billion won.

Samsung’s record spending shows that the company is investing heavily in technology and business growth. Its major investments in research, semiconductors and displays are aimed at helping it remain strong in the highly competitive global technology market.
