Samsung Could Be Quietly Walking Away From An Entire Part Of Its Business In China
While most of us might associate Samsung with smartphones, the company makes all kinds of products. This includes home appliances like refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and more. But it seems that over in China, Samsung might be considering a shutdown of its home appliances and monitor divisions.
Samsung could shutdown home appliance, monitor divisions in China
According to a report from ITHome, it seems that Samsung might be considering withdrawing some of its operations from China. This includes the Samsung home appliances and monitor divisions, both of which could be shutdown. However, it should be noted that Samsung’s monitor division actually grew in 2025.
The reason it is caught up in these shutdown rumors is because it’s under the same umbrella as the home appliances division. The report claims that Samsung had approached JD.com about buying its divisions, but the company passed on it. But another company, Saifu, has emerged as a potential new owner.
For those unfamiliar, Saifu had previously acquired LG’s online home appliance business in China. If it acquires Samsung’s business, it would widen their portfolio and offerings. Assuming these reports are accurate, it would leave smartphones and memory chips as Samsung’s only operations in China.
Keep in mind that Samsung hasn’t officially commented yet. So until they do, it’s worth taking this with a grain of salt for now.
This move makes sense
China is a massive market, which is why many companies are trying to enter. However, it makes sense that Samsung would pull out. Samsung typically markets its products as premium, which usually comes with a hefty price tag. But over in China, there are plenty of alternative local brands for displays and home appliances.
For instance, there is Haier, which is widely considered China’s biggest home appliance manufacturer. The company makes washing machines, refrigerators, and air-conditioners. Then, you also have companies like Xiaomi who make smaller appliances. This includes kettles, rice cookers, vacuums, and even displays.
So as we can see, competing in China can be tricky, especially when you have local companies building the exact same thing but at half the price.
