On February 22, the American will complete six months in anti-doping testing pool. Thus, she will become fully eligible to compete in WTA events once again, maybe already in Indian Wells in March!
Serena never officially retired from tennis, despite not playing since the 2022 US Open. The speculation around her comeback started last year when she took steps to re-enter the ITIA testing system required to make a comeback.
Of course, the eligibility does not guarantee a return. However, it ensures the option is firmly on the table, despite Williams' denial. Fellow American Alycia Parks recently trained with Serena and enjoyed her guidance and mentorship.

Per Parks, the legend looked sharp and physically prepared, which adds fuel to the intrigue surrounding her status. The buzz is growing, with many tennis fans awaiting to see one of the most decorated players of all time in action.
However, Serena has consistently played down expectations, shaking off the pressure. The 44-year-old recently emphasized that eligibility should not be confused with intent.
She also stated that she enjoys her family life and businesses outside tennis, taking care of her two daughters. At the end of January, she appeared on the Today Show and left space for interpretation.
Williams did not feed hype, but she neither extinguished hope. Thus, the door is open for any option. For now, we should know that Serena can play professional tennis again after missing the action for three and a half years.

However, the upcoming steps remain a mystery, as no one knows them except her. Knowing Serena, absolutely anything is on the table, from her instant Indian Wells wild card to not entering the court at all.
Williams' most recent Major title came at the 2017 Australian Open over her sister Venus. She gave birth to her first daughter later that year and returned to action in 2018.
Serena made a push in 2019 with two Major finals and the year-end top-10 honor. She reduced her schedule in the next three years and decided to stop after the 2022 US Open.
